HOW DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORK?

Lasers have been used for many years in a variety of medical procedures. Now they are being used for hair removal. In women the most common areas for treatment are upper lip, chin, bikini line, legs and underarms. In men the most common areas are shoulder and back. The lasers target pigmentation in the hair called melanin. Precisely controlled laser energy passes through the skin and is absorbed by melanin in the hair shaft. This absorbed heat travels down the hair shaft to the root, where it can permanently disable the hair follicle and impair further hair growth. Once the hair follicle is disabled, it won't ever grow hair again. It's critical to catch the hair during the "anagen" part of the growth cycle, because that's when the hair contains an abundance of melanin. Hair must have color - melanin - to work the laser. During the treatment, both the patient and the technician wear protective goggles to avoid exposure to direct or scattered laser light. Most patients experience minimal discomfort during a treatment. The number of treatments vary for individuals, depending on hair growth, ethnicity, hair density and growth cycles, medications, hormones, hair location and metabolism.

HOW DOES ELECTROLYSIS WORK?

Unlike laser hair removal, electrolysis is best utilized on blonde or gray hairs, although it can be used on any color hair. For example, hairs under the eyebrow are best treated with electrolysis. A mid-brow can be treated with a laser. Your technician can evaluate which treatment works best for your situation. Like laser hair removal, electrolysis is permanent. A low-level electrical current is applied to the hair, destroying the hair root. The hair is then removed with a tweezers. Because the hair can't grow back without nourishment, another hair can't grow in the follicle. Christina Clinic's electrologists are Certified Medical electrologists. They utilize the most up-to-date, effective methods of sterilization and disinfection. They use sterile probes and follow guidelines set up by the American Electrolysis Association and the Centers for Disease Control.

WHAT SKIN SYSTEMS DO YOU OFFER?

Microdermabrasion and alpha hydroxy peels are offered for improving the texture and appearance of skin. Eyebrow design and shaping is done with waxing or electrolysis. Microdermabrasion is used for skin resurfacing and treating a range of skin abnormalities. It regenerates the epidermal cell structure, increasing the skin's elasticity and collagen. This results in more youthful-appearing skin. The procedure usually takes about 30 minutes. A series of six treatments are recommended, at least one week apart. Alpha hydroxy (chemical) peels can be used to improve such skin imperfections as fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation irregularities and mild-to-moderate acne. A prior consultation and viewing of a video are required before a procedure is performed. The clinic is adding a new service for men and women, Facial Capillary Cauterization. It's guaranteed to be effective and gentle. Call for details.
